Our Tree Removal Process

Trees come in all different sizes, shapes and locations. Therefore, our removal process must be adaptable to whatever circumstances come our way. Brisbane Tree Guys have the expertise to handle any challenge, from climbing and disassembling trees to using a crane to get them out of difficult locations.

  • Prior to beginning work, the team performs an on-site safety check to identify and plan for any nearby obstacles or hazards.
  • The climber scales the tree and sets up their ropes.
  • Once the ropes are in place, our expert members slowly disassemble the tree piece by piece with a chainsaw and lower the segments onto the ground team.
  • We remove the green debris from the site and chop off any larger pieces afterwards.
  • Once all branches and the top of the tree are removed, the climber either disassembles the trunk from top to bottom or, depending on space, lowers it down so the team can cut the entire tree.
  • The remaining green waste is then shredded with the wood chipper and removed from the property.
  • The team performs a final inspection of the property to ensure it is left in as good or better condition than when the work began.

Why Trees Need To Be Removed

Brisbane is a lush and green and we love our trees – BUT there are times when trees need to be trimmed or even removed.
We can help you go through the process of removing a problem tree.
If the tree is classed as a feral pest, you will not need council approval.
Tree removal is necessary in Brisbane for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Safety concerns: Trees that are dead, diseased, or damaged pose a safety risk to people and property, and may need to be removed to prevent accidents or damage.
  • Structural issues: Trees that are leaning or have structural defects may need to be removed to prevent them from falling over.
  • Overcrowding: Trees that are too close together may compete for resources, causing them to become stunted or weakened, and may need to be removed to improve the health of the remaining trees.
  • Property development: Trees may need to be removed to make way for new construction, infrastructure, or landscaping projects.

In some cases you will need to apply to your local council on advice or guidance about established trees and get permission to remove a tree on your land in Brisbane. This is because many trees are protected by local laws, such as Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) or other regulations, and removing them without permission can result in significant fines or penalties.
It is always best to check with your local council before removing a tree to ensure that you are in compliance with their guidelines and regulations.

The Trees Typically Remove

The most common trees removed or cut down in Brisbane include:

  • Palm Trees: The Cocos palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana) is highly invasive and fast-growing species. The fruit and seed pods are messy and attract flying foxes and their dense root systems damage pipes and foundations.
  • Camphor laurel: These trees were planted as ornamentals, but have become invasive and are now considered a weed. They can grow very large and have a shallow root system, making them prone to falling over in storms.
  • Moreton Bay fig: While these trees are iconic in Brisbane, they can also grow very large and have invasive roots that can damage buildings and infrastructure.
  • Jacaranda: These trees are known for their beautiful purple flowers, but can also become very large and have weak wood that is prone to breaking in storms.

Problem Trees That We Remove

Some of the most dangerous trees in Brisbane are those that are prone to dropping large branches or falling over during severe weather conditions.
Examples of trees that cause damage and insurance claims in Brisbane include the Jacaranda tree, the Camphor Laurel, the Mango tree, and the Eucalyptus tree.
These trees can have weak branch attachments or shallow root systems, which make them more susceptible to damage and falling during strong winds or storms. Additionally, certain species of trees, such as the Weeping Fig and the Rubber tree, can have invasive root systems that can cause damage to underground pipes and structures, making them potentially hazardous to nearby properties.

Homeowners should be aware of the potential hazards associated with these trees and take appropriate action to manage their growth and prevent damage. In some cases, removal may be necessary to prevent damage to property or to maintain the health of other trees and plants.

The rules and regulations around tree removal vary depending on the local council in Brisbane. Some local councils have a list of trees that can be removed without approval, while others require approval for all tree removals. It is important to check with your local council before removing any trees.

In terms of feral trees that the council wishes to have removed, some of the common ones in Brisbane include:

  1. Chinese elm – this tree is an invasive species that can spread quickly and outcompete native vegetation. It can also cause damage to infrastructure and is considered a fire hazard.

  2. Camphor laurel – another invasive species that can quickly take over an area and suppress native vegetation. It can also cause damage to infrastructure and is considered a fire hazard.

  3. Umbrella tree – this tree is also known as schefflera and is considered a weed in many areas. It can quickly grow and spread, outcompeting native vegetation and causing damage to infrastructure.

  4. Weeping fig – this tree is often planted as an ornamental plant but can quickly become a problem in areas where it is not native. It can outcompete native vegetation and cause damage to infrastructure.

There are several common tree diseases that can cause damage and ultimately lead to the removal of trees in Brisbane. Here are some examples:

  1. Phytophthora root rot: This is a fungal disease that attacks the roots of trees and can cause them to rot and eventually die. It is a common problem in areas with high rainfall and poor drainage.
  2. Sudden Oak Death: This is a disease caused by a fungus-like organism that attacks oak trees and other species. It can cause wilting, leaf loss, and cankers on the trunk and branches.
  3. Myrtle rust: This is a fungal disease that affects trees in the Myrtaceae family, including eucalyptus trees. It can cause leaf spots, wilting, and defoliation, and can be particularly damaging to young trees.
  4. Ganoderma root rot: This is a fungal disease that attacks the roots of trees and causes them to decay. It can be difficult to detect until the tree begins to show signs of stress, such as wilting leaves or dead branches.
  5. Canker diseases: There are several different canker diseases that can affect trees in Brisbane, including citrus canker and apple scab. These diseases can cause lesions on the bark and leaves, and can eventually lead to the death of the tree.

It is important to regularly inspect trees for signs of disease and to take action if any problems are detected. In some cases, diseased trees may need to be removed to prevent the spread of the disease to other trees in the area
